Chief Minister's Carbon Footprint Dramatically Reduced

STOP PRESS STOP PRESS STOP PRESS STOP PRESS STOP PRESS

Chief Minister of Gibraltar, Fabian Picado, has ditched the "Oily Rag" and has chosen a Tesla Signature Model S - an electric supercar built in Fremont California.

As part of a Gibraltar Government initiative to use "greener" vehicles, the Model S already has serious credentials being voted in 2013 World Green Car, Automobile Magazine's "Car of the Year" and one of Time Magazines Best 25 Inventions of the Year 2012.

The Tesla is charged from a regular electrical supply and with its 85 kWh lithium-ion battery independent test show it able to run for over 425 kms on one charge....no details yet of any appreciable increase in No.6 Convent Place's electricity bill!

The Tesla has a top speed of 125 mph and a 0-60 time of 5.2 seconds - which  compares very favourably with the Maserati Quattroporte VI  - a very similar looking car - that covers the same distance in 5.1 seconds.

As for the Jaguar, it will not be retired and is being re-assigned with the Chief Minister's "G1" number-plate now gracing the Tesla.

Gibraltar Cherished Car Numbers

Gibraltar Cherished Car Numbers

Do you know the Internet is a really curious place, in my case I am consistently  impressed how those who don't live in Gibraltar see this often overlooked British Overseas Territory.

We have been getting e-mails from many who continue consider a move to make Gibraltar their new home. As a business that's what we help you do!

We provide a range of professional services focussed on providing you with the very best advice to enable you to make an informed decision as to whether you too could be happy being a resident of Gibraltar.

In addition, we continue to add to our collection of "G1" to "G100" in celebration of next years anniversary of the 90th year of the "GBZ" (Gibraltar's Code) International Registration Code.

From our friends both in Gibraltar and elsewhere we are getting many e-mails with photos of relevant registration numbers. Today it's "G5" seen earlier today in down town Gib.

Please keep sending your photos so that by January 1st 2014 we should have a complete record of cars "G1" to "G100"!

That takes our total to 29 of the numbers between "G1" and "G100" come on guys let's see if we can complete our collection compilation....

Gibraltar's Cherished Car Numbers - Continued

Gibraltar's Cherished Car Numbers - Continued

As discussed in a previous post 2014 is the 90th Anniversary of the "GBZ" International Registration.

We are compiling a photographic record of as many G plated cars numbered "G1" to "G100" as we can.

We are pleased to add a further one today - more will follow with more support from our friends and contacts in Gibraltar:

54th member of UEFA

In May this year Gibraltar became the 54th Member of UEFA and after several weeks of jubilant celebrations it took the opportunity to paint a post box in celebration!

Plans are evolving for a new stadium and we hear regular information about the scheduling of likely matches which will appear on the Gibraltar Football Association's site http://www.gibraltarfa.com/ in due course.

The UEFA membership has opened the international door to both Women and Men's teams and has been shown to attract talent that has been playing in the English leagues to make themselves available for the Gibraltar national team. Former Manchester United, Southampton and Stoke City defender Danny Higginbotham has his "in principle" willingness to play for the national team who's manager, Allan Bula, is Higginbotham's uncle.

It is hoped that the UEFA membership, long blocked by Spain's objections will allow Gibraltar to take its justly deserved place amongst the FIFA membership and, in time, the International Olympic Committee.

It seems that the first UEFA outing for the National Team will be the Qualifiers for European Championship 2016. So watch this space for more news of where and when you will be able to see the Gibraltarian National Football team in action.
