In May this year Gibraltar became the 54th Member of UEFA and after several weeks of jubilant celebrations it took the opportunity to paint a post box in celebration!
Plans are evolving for a new stadium and we hear regular information about the scheduling of likely matches which will appear on the Gibraltar Football Association's site http://www.gibraltarfa.com/ in due course.
The UEFA membership has opened the international door to both Women and Men's teams and has been shown to attract talent that has been playing in the English leagues to make themselves available for the Gibraltar national team. Former Manchester United, Southampton and Stoke City defender Danny Higginbotham has his "in principle" willingness to play for the national team who's manager, Allan Bula, is Higginbotham's uncle.
It is hoped that the UEFA membership, long blocked by Spain's objections will allow Gibraltar to take its justly deserved place amongst the FIFA membership and, in time, the International Olympic Committee.
It seems that the first UEFA outing for the National Team will be the Qualifiers for European Championship 2016. So watch this space for more news of where and when you will be able to see the Gibraltarian National Football team in action.
